Trim Restoration Chicago
Gray, chalky plastic trim ages a car faster than almost anything else — a clean, glossy vehicle with faded bumpers and mirror caps still reads as "old." Spray-on trim dressings fix it for two weeks, then wash away. Our trim restoration is different: DIY Detail's ceramic black trim coating, applied over professionally prepped plastic, restoring deep black that's built to last. From $200, mobile across Chicagoland.
Pricing
Faded, chalky black plastic brought back to deep, rich black with a ceramic trim coating — and protected so it stays that way. Text photos of your trim for an exact quote. See the full exterior menu & pricing or our complete services & pricing menu.

Why Trim Turns Gray
Exterior plastics are dyed, not painted, and UV breaks down the surface layer — sun-baked summers accelerate it, and once oxidation starts, it spreads. Dressings just wet the surface temporarily; restoration replaces the failed surface with a coating.
Restoration, Not Dressing
We deep-clean and decontaminate the trim, strip old dressing residue, prep the plastic so the coating can bond, then apply ceramic trim coating evenly across every piece — bumper trim, mirror caps, cowl, window surrounds, wheel arches, roof rails. The result is uniform deep black with a factory-correct satin finish, resistant to washing, rain, and Chicago winters.
Common Questions
How long does it last?
This is a true coating — expect durability measured in years with normal care, versus weeks for spray dressings.
Can badly oxidized, white-gray trim come back?
Almost always — heavy oxidation takes more prep, which we'll see and quote from photos.
Does it work on textured plastic?
Yes — textured bumper trim and cladding respond especially well.
Trim restoration is the finishing move after our exterior detailing services — many customers pair it with paint correction for the full exterior revival, all via mobile service.
